Chinese Flying Apsaras Painting
Flying Apsaras refers to flying celestial being in China. Their images are mostly found in cave murals. There is a distinctive characteristic can be found in flying Apsaras images. Painters express flying Apsaras by means of clouds, blowing dress, and flying silk ribbon, not wings or feather. Flying Apsaras often has two coiled bun on head, slim and half-naked, wearing long silk skirt with ribbon moving with breeze. Some might playing pipa (Chinese lute, a plucked string instrument with a fretted fingerboard), or playing konghou (an ancient plucked stringed instrument), or fifing, or beating waist drum, full of grace and elegance.
Flying Apsaras, in a sense, is not an image of art but a combiantion of multiple culture. It is a figure created based on Chinese tradition, hasing many of features of foreign culture.
a few weeks ago and just want to let
you know I am very pleased with it. It
was beautifully wrapped and arrived
in perfect condition. The painting itself
is gorgeous and I had it professionally
framed and hung above my fireplace. It
is a wonderful addition to my home.
